iPhonified

My apologies. I really don’t like this drawing. In fact, the more I look at it the more I dislike it. But, it’s what came out, and I’m still fighting the remnants of this cold and in no mood to draw another. Sorry. :/

So yes, I’ve abandoned the Android / G1 ship.  I still hold that it’s a far better platform for developers for a number of reasons, but after only half a day with the iPhone I’m pretty convinced I made the right decision. I’m sure part of it is the new iPhone hardware making it so responsive, but it’s more than that. Everything just works better. Dragging lists works exactly as you expect it to, everything stays perfectly under your finger as it drags it around, but the G1 never manage that. You dragged your finger up the screen and the list would drag up, but never as if it were attached to your finger more as if your finger had suggested something for it to do and it was following along. The on-screen typing is about a billion times better and every way I interact with the iPhone feels more natural than the same interactions on Android.

I really want to see the Android platform succeed, and I believe that in a few years it will really come into its own, but right now the iPhone is totally kicking its ass when it comes to usability, nevermind the sheer number of apps. The way Apple treats iPhone developers is still bullshit, and I’ll probably never write anything for iPhone because I have no desire to learn Objective C, but you can’t argue with the end product…

Also, the new camera? There is no comparison to the camera on the G1. It is so much better it isn’t funny, and the Camera application is notably better too.
