Three Days Sick

Thursday I knew I probably wouldn’t go into work on Friday. Friday I knew I wouldn’t be up for much on Saturday Saturday I knew Sunday would be screwed Sunday I can only pray that Monday will be better.

Apologies in advance: sorry this post, and so many recently, have been motorcycle / scooter focused. I realize most of you don’t give a shit, but this is a blog about what’s going on in my life and getting the upcoming journey sorted out is the biggest thing on my mind as of late, and in order to do it I need to resolve the issue of what vehicle I’ll be riding.

Saturday I felt not totally crappy and ventured out for an hour to test-ride one of the Stellas I’ve been wanting so badly. Unfortunately, my dreams were shattered (probably didn’t help the cold any either). It turns out I’ve got a somewhat bum wrist. I hadn’t really noticed before, because the only time it gives me any trouble is when clutching on a motorcycle. Just, a little bit of pain. Not bad, but somewhat uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the Stella’s manual shift requires twisting the left wrist back / up as far as it can go to get it into first, and that is notably painful for me, at least while holding in a clutch. I really want the scoot, and it’s really built well, but if I’m honest with myself, I will not be happy with something that causes me pain every time I use it, no matter how beautiful and stylin’ it is.

So, no Stella.

I’ve been reading the awesome tale of Nathan and Dot making their way from Sydney to London and Dot isn’t very different from a Symba which I have been considering also. Their site is here, but it’s a little easier to read the thread on ADV since it isn’t in reverse chronological order there. I could, of course, do it on my Ninja, and logically that makes a lot of sense since I already have it and it’s running great now, but some part of me really likes the idea of doing the journey on a simple little beast which can’t really do much over 50mph. I like the idea of having to use back roads, and doing so on a simple machine that I can actually wrap my head around the mechanics of.

Speaking of… I stuck the carburetor back in the Metro since it was something to do while sitting around sick. Good news is I successfully disassembled, cleaned, and reinstalled a carb. Bad news is, it didn’t fix the problem. I give up. I’m going to take it in to be worked on sinceĀ  I can’t sell it as is.
