Old friends

I’d been thinking about my high-school sweetheart lately. I haven’t seen her in about ten years and I’d always had a good relationship with her and her mother. I wondered what she’d been up too. If her textile design career ever took off, if she’d gotten married, how her mom was doing, and many other things. And then, she tracked me down and dropped me an e-mail before I had gotten off of my butt and done the same.

It was all sorts of awesome.

It’s also a little… odd. So much time has passed that catching up involves relating the tales of multiple deaths, and sadnesses.  It’s all “OMG Awesome to talk to you. By the way, everyone’s dead.” Ok most of the everyone’s are animals, but still. I haven’t gotten a full accounting of her years but I’m anxious to find out. I’d missed her, and I’m hoping  that we can keep in contact. I’m not very good at that. In fact, I suck at it, but I’m really going to try. She was a great person and she made me smile. And it would be really great to have another person like that in my life.

I wanted to draw her for you tonight, but I didn’t have a picture. So, instead I drew you Tabatha, as Karen is one of the few people who knew Tabba back when she was young, spritely, and the only cat I had.

Side note. I really love how the highest back leg defines the lower edge of the lower front leg. It’s kind of like the cube drawing where if you look at it one way it’s coming out and another way and it’s going in. One way it’s a front leg and another it’s the back…
