Another page in the creation myth for the Hunticle.
Simon left a comment on yesterdays post wherein I lamented the quality of Fontify.com for making fonts from your handwriting, and suggested YourFonts.com, which is free. I figured it would only cost me the time to fill out, scan, and upload their template, so why not. It could hardly be worse than Fontify. Turns out, it was dramatically better. It still doesn’t look so hot up close, but as you can see in today’s post, it’s much cleaner.
I tried cleaning it up further in FontForge, which is easy, although time consuming, but when I went to export it it complained about all sorts of errors in the font, like points in them not having integral locations and other obscure things. It has a little dialog with a “Fix” button in it, which made various things flash and then seemed to get caught in loops back and forth between two points. I spent a couple hours cleaning the font (only partially) and at least half an hour trying to get it to export, but in the end I couldn’t get it to export without including errors in the font which didn’t seem a good idea, so I went with the raw output from YourFonts.com.
In other news: Psyched for Miller’s Halloween party. Psyched for the election, and a little scared if Cancer Head and The Loon get in. Psyched for the Hunticle, and hoping we can get the site up for it shortly so I can announce it to a wider audience. I really want to start it off this weekend, and I’d like to have that in place first.
