Damn lips!
I swear to you I wasn’t going to draw more lips. I had no intention, at all, of drawing more lips. Then, I swing by flickr and find that like_shipwrecks has gone and posted this! Damn you LS. Damn you and your lippy goodness! How could I resist? The angle is freaking perfect. You totally get a sense of their fullness, which, unless you happen to be photographing Angelina Jolie, is pretty difficult to do. Add to it that subtle fade of color from the lip towards the leftmost tooth? I couldn’t resist the challenge.
I really wanted to do the nose too but, this alone took me over two hours. I’m happy, but not thrilled with the result. The bottom lip I’m happy with. The top… well I was over an hour into this by the time I started in on the top lip, and I have to admit, I cut corners. Making something that would have done justice to the wonderful texture in the original photo would have taken forever, and I generally don’t spend much over an hour on these. The color is off due to a brain-dead mistake I made early on. I tried to correct it in Gimp, and came close, but, had I not been a dork I would have had a much sweeter result.
Part of me is wondering if this recent lip obsession isn’t, at least in part, due to the excessive number of times I’ve listened to Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl, and the fact that I haven’t had a really good kiss in quite some time.

Side note: the only thing I don’t like about drawing lips is that when I’m done I feel like I’ve created some piece of commercial art for use is a fashion ad, which is SO not me.
