Tax Day
I really would have done my taxes earlier, but I overlooked one of my W-2s because it was disguised as crap mail and had to get another one sent. I wasn’t too worried this time. One W-2 entered and I was getting money back. The second W-2 entered and things started looking bad. Start filling out state taxes and things start looking ugly. This bullshit “I’m a good president. See? I’m giving you money.” federal rebate can’t be used to mitigate your bill. No, you still have to pay the full bill but then you get a rebate.
Should you find yourself in your own little tax hell remind yourself that it’s not the IRS’s fault. They’re just the ones tasked with collecting the results of the tax laws congress passes. After dealing with the IRS for a while now to pay off some old (and huge) tax bills I have to say they’ve been incredibly helpful and willing to accommodate.
I just wish there was some check-box when you fill out your tax info at work that would, assuming your income doesn’t change during the year, guarantee the IRS took out enough that you wouldn’t have to pay. Although, a flat tax would be so much better.
